Canal+ to Open New Cinemas, CanalOlympia in Nigeria

Things are looking bright for Nigeria’s cinema and film industry as French Television and streaming giant, Canal+ is set to open state-of-the-art cinemas, CanalOlympia in Nigeria.

Pulse.ng quoting an exclusive source, says the solar-powered cinemas will be located in Abuja and Lagos.

While the CanalOlympia cinema is expected to officially launch in Abuja this April, its Lagos branch will open in the coming months.

The news is coming on the heels of more foreign players and investors thronging to the West African country’s film industry for a piece of its growing and prolific Nollywood market.

The French TV company, Canal+ had acquired Jason Njoku’s – founded ROK film studio in July 2019 and is looking to cash in big on Nollywood, Africa’s de facto film industry and one of the largest globally by production volume.

Canal+ is looking to grow its strongholds in Africa with CanalOlympia cinemas which already has footholds in Cameroon, Togo, Guinea, Benin Republic, Congo, Gabon, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Niger Republic and Senegal.
